Nick Lutz carried Community Bank to its first Oneonta Little League championship since 2008 Tuesday.

Lutz went 4-for-4 with a triple, six RBIs and scored four runs, and earned the pitching victory as Community Bank defeated Police, 20-6, in the title game at Doc Knapp Field.

The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.

“It’s all about how deep your pitching is,” Community Bank coach Rich Murphy said. “We started Lutz and it’s the first time he’s pitched all year. He went 3 2/3 innings and we got more than we hoped out of him.

“He’s a big, strong kid and he just had real nice composure and, for the most part, threw strikes,” he continued.

When Lutz departed on the mound, Community Bank held a 13-5 lead.

Community Bank (13-5) never trailed after scoring five times in the first inning, the big hit a two-run single by Lutz.

Gabe House contributed a two-run homer in the fifth inning. His blast to center caromed off the Doc Knapp sign.

“It was a shot,” Murphy said of the drive by House, who finished 2-for-4.

Trey Hathaway also had a two-run triple in the fifth.

Graham Wooden had three doubles and scored four times for CB, which went 5-1 in the tournament, including a 2-1 win Monday over Police that forced Tuesday’s deciding game.

“You can’t stop him” Murphy said of the 11-year-old Wooden.

Also for CB, Tony Giovagnoli had two hits, a double and scored four runs.

Cameron Neer and Sean MacInerney each had three hits for Police.
