Big catch leads to bass tourney title
Bob Luther and Jim Clement won the Susquehanna Bass Association’s Kirn’s Body Shop Open on Sunday at Canadarago Lake.
Luther and Clement won with a five-fish limit weighing 17.19 pounds. Their total included Clement’s 22-inch, 6.03-pound largemouth bass, which stood as the big fish of the day.
Lou Falvo and David Hubbard finished second with five fish at 15.57 pounds, followed by Steve Wilson and Anthony Konchar at 13.85 pounds, and Phil Kroll in a solo effort at 13.79.
Hubbard caught the big smallmouth of the day (19.5 inches, 3.56 pounds).

Sidney football sign-ups Tuesday
Sidney’s youth football and flag football sign-ups will run from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Keith Clark Park in Sidney.
Flag football is for youths in grades K-2 and costs $35. Youth football is for children in grades 3-6 and costs $45. Fees must be paid at registration. Copies of birth certificates are required.
Equipment handout and a second sign-up date will take place at the end of July. The season will begin with practices around Aug. 5.
Sidney’s youth football program also will hold a car-wash fundraiser from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. July 20 at McDonald’s and Chamber Auto Sales in Sidney.
YMCA/Outlaws 5K is July 10
The Oneonta Family YMCA/Oneonta Outlaws 5K Fun Run will start at 5:50 p.m. July 10 outside Damaschke Field in Neahwa Park.
Race-night registration and bib pick-up runs from 4-5:30 p.m. All timing will end at 6:45 p.m., 15 minutes before the start of the Outlaws’ baseball game that night.

O-State track meets start Tuesday
The Hurley’s Heroes Track Club of Oneonta will host three Twilight Track & Field Meets this summer at Oneonta State.
Meets will begin at 7 p.m. this Tuesday, July 9 and July 23 and are free. All ages are welcome.
Events include the 50-meter dash, 100, 200, 400, 800, mile, 3,000 and possibly the high jump.
Buck Fever Night is Aug. 10
Whitetails Unlimited will sponsor the Oneonta Area Buck Fever Night on Aug. 10 at the Oneonta Elks Club at 84 Chestnut St. in Oneonta.
The event will feature a two-meat dinner, an auction and prizes. Proceeds will benefit local youth hunting programs such as 4H and Archery in the Schools.
The social hour begins at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 10, with dinner to follow at 6 p.m.
Tickets cost $35 each, $20 for a spouse and $15 for juniors ages 15 and younger. Deadline to order tickets is Aug. 3. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

DC Amateur golf July 12-14
The 48th annual Delaware County Men’s Amateur Golf Tournament will be held July 12-14 at the Delhi College Golf Course.
The tournament is open to all members of Delaware County golf courses or residents of Delaware County and will feature a championship division and five handicap flights.

Morris alumni to golf Saturday
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the third annual Morris Alumni Tournament on Saturday.
The captain-and-crew event, which is open to the public, will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.

Hall to host All-Star Gala
The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown will host its annual All-Star Gala in the Grandstand Theater on July 16.
The event centers on the 84th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, which will be televised live in the Grandstand Theater. Citi Field, which is home to the New York Mets, will host the All-Star Game.
Doors to the Grandstand Theater open at 7:30 p.m., with game coverage beginning at 8 p.m.
Fans will be treated to hot dogs and ballpark-style snacks, along with a limited edition commemorative All-Star Gala button for all guests in attendance. Scorecards will be distributed to fans, and official All-Star Game programs will be available for purchase.
Games, trivia contests and opportunities to win door prizes will take place during inning breaks.
Tickets are available to participants in the Hall’s membership program and cost $10 for adults and $5 for children. Remaining tickets, if any, will go on sale to the general public July 8.

Hall to display World Series trophy
The San Francisco Giants’ 2012 World Series trophy will be on exhibit at the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown on Saturday and Sunday.
The trophy will be on display in the Hall’s Library Atrium from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. Access to the trophy is included with museum admission.

Outlaws camps start Monday
The Oneonta Outlaws will host baseball camps for boys and girls ages 5-12 from this Monday through July 18 at Damaschke Field.
Each four-day camp runs from 9 a.m.-noon Mondays through Thursdays. Campers will be grouped based on age and ability.
Cost is $70 per player and includes 12 hours of instruction from Outlaws coaches and players, as well as an official Oneonta Outlaws T-shirt. Cost for each additional family member is $60. Additional camps also cost $60 apiece.
The Outlaws are also offering birthday party packages. Cost is $12 per child, with a minimum of 10 children required. Cost includes free game admission for each child and one parent, as well as food and drink for each child. The birthday child also will received an Outlaws baseball cap and throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Otsego Golf Club will host a series of golf camps led by Bobby Amore starting Monday.

The Mites Camps (ages 10-12) run this Monday through Thursday and July 15-18. The Minis Camp (7-8) runs July 1-4, and the Juniors Camp (13-14) is scheduled for July 8-11.

Oneonta State will host Ken Chertow Wrestling’s Gold Medal Training Camp from July 12-15.
The camp is for wrestlers of all skill levels and ages. Group discounts are available.

The SUNY Oneonta athletics department will hold its third annual Coaches Golf Classic on July 20 at the Oneonta Country Club.
Entry fee for the captain-and-crew event is $100 per golfer.
Prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place foursomes in both flights, as well as for longest drive and closest to the pin.

Girls basketball camp July 21-24
The Oneonta State women’s basketball team will host a developmental overnight/commuter camp for girls ages 10-18 from July 21-24.
Team members will serve as counselor’s for the camp, which is designed to develop fundamentals.
Daily activities include 1-on-1 and 3-on-3 instruction, fundamental stations, and games.

The Cooperstown Soccer Club and Challenger Sports will host British Soccer Camps from July 29-Aug. 2 at Cooperstown Elementary.

BASE Race set for Aug. 11
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host the second annual BASE Race on Aug. 11.
The event features a competitive 10-kilometer race at 8 a.m. and a family-style 5K run at 8:15 a.m. Both events start and finish at the CSC.
Registration is $25 for adults and $50 for families until race day, when registration will be $40 for individuals and $65 for families.
Proceeds support outreach for the “Be A Superior Example” program, which promotes the concepts of healthy lifestyle choices by educating students about the dangers of performance-enhancing substances.
