Special thanks to Worcester
On June 1, I was deeply honored and greatly humbled to be inducted into the Delhi College Athletic Hall of Fame on Delhi College’s 100th anniversary.
Delhi College wrote an official review of the ceremony and that write-up was printed on the front page of The Daily Star’s sports section June 12.
From 1969-1997, excluding one year to obtain my master’s degree and one year as an instructor and assistant basketball coach at Delhi College, I spent nearly 25 years as a teacher, athletic director and coach of various sports at Worcester Central School.
During my time at WCS, I was surrounded by many wonderful and outstanding students and athletic teams that brought many accolades to our school.
I accepted the honor at Delhi College with the understanding that it be shared equally with:
A. All coaches I have had the honor to play for and all the players I have had the honor of playing with.
B. All the students I have had the honor to teach and all the athletes I have had the honor to coach.
The teams at WCS brought home many awards from tournaments, leagues, sectionals and regionals, without which, I am sure, my nomination at Delhi College would not have been possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere thanks to WCS, Tri-Valley and Delaware coaches and officials, Delhi College, President Candace Vancko, athletic director Bob Backus, Delhi HOF nomination committee, Alumni Coordinator Lucinda Brydon, and Mr. James Kenyon, WCS athletic director, for his kind words of introduction.
Charles K. Ives Jr., East Worcester
