Billy Kozak went 3-for-3, but Sidney’s Legion baseball team left nine runners on base en route to losing, 6-0, to Brockville, Ont., in its first game in the Green Wave Wood Bat Classic on Friday at Oneonta High.
Brockville received eight strikeouts and five walks from winning pitcher Brogy Burns, who also hit an RBI triple in the first inning to give his team a 1-0 lead.
“You get guys on first and second and nobody out, and go strikeout, strikeout, groundout,” Sidney coach Matt Hafele said of his team, which finished with five hits. “We’re not executing.”
Losing pitcher Quinn Barnhart (2-1) allowed three runs over six innings.
Sidney (8-5) will play a pair of tournament games Saturday at Field 6 in Neahwa Park. It opens against Bradford County at 12:30 p.m. and then plays Schenectady County at 5:30 p.m.
Oneonta Post 259 played a night game against the Montreal Titans on Friday at Damaschke Field. The Green Wave will play Corning at 5:15 p.m. Saturday at OHS.
