Pindar homers as Oneonta Outlaws get even with Sherrill

The Daily Star

One day after being swept by the Sherrill Silversmiths, the Oneonta Outlaws returned the favor Thursday.

Oneonta (22-14) followed a 7-5 victory in the first game with an 8-2 win in the second game of a New York Collegiate Baseball League doubleheader at Sherrill.

Both games went seven innings.

The Outlaws, who lost by scores of 5-3 and 7-6 to Sherrill on Wednesday, pulled to a half-game of league-leading Olean (20-11), which played at Niagara on Wednesday.

A heavy Oneonta High flavor covered the Game 1 victory, with Chris Pindar hitting his first NYCBL home run – a three-run shot in the sixth inning that put the Outlaws ahead – and former Yellowjackets teammates Sean Getman and Mike Calkins pitching. Getman threw 11/3 innings to get his first NYCBL victory.

Pindar, Getman and Calkins helped the Yellowjackets win the 2012 Class B state title in baseball.

Pindar, who hit a single-season OHS record seven home runs this spring, gave the Outlaws a 6-5 lead with his homer in the sixth. Mitch Hollander walked and Howard Joe ahead of Pindar’s blast.

Pindar finished 2-for-2 with four RBIs.

Getman allowed no runs on one hit and struck out one.

Calkins started for the Outlaws, going 32/3 innings. The left-hander allowed five runs on five hits. He struck out three and walked four.

Brian Kraft’s home run in the seventh gave Oneonta a two-run cushion.

The Outlaws’ Jake Levine contributed two hits and two RBIs, raising his batting average to .362.

In the second game, Endwell product Alec Romanowski threw a complete-game three-hitter to lead the Outlaws. Romanowski (2-0) struck out five and walked none.

The Outlaws scored eight times before the Silversmiths got two runs in the seventh inning.

Josh Treff’s RBI triple in the first inning gave Oneonta a 1-0 lead. Spencer Duffie scored on a passed ball in the second inning to increase the Outlaws’ lead to 2-0.

A two-base fielding error by Doug Putkowski in the fourth inning helped Oneonta to two runs. Joe walked to lead off and came around to score when Mitch Hollander’s single was misplayed by Putkowski. Hollander advanced to third and scored on Duffie’s groundout to make it 4-0.

Hollander’s two-run double in the seventh highlighted a four-run inning.

Hollander had two of Oneonta’s four hits. The Outlaws benefited from eight walks and three errors by Sherrill. Oneonta High graduate Nate Eastman went 0-for-2 for the Silversmiths.

The Outlaws will host Sherrill at 7 tonight.
