Zak Green struck out six in five scoreless innings Wednesday, leading the Oneonta Hurricanes to a 7-0 victory over Oxford in the Otsenango PONY League championship game at Field 6 in Neahwa Park.
Green gave up two hits and one walk en route to the pitching victory. Casey Bishop followed with two scoreless innings of relief as he and Green combined on a five-hitter.
The Hurricanes snapped a scoreless tie with four runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Austin Brown singled to lead off and moved to third on Bennett Eggler’s one-out single to deep right-center field. Brown scored and Eggler advanced to third when Brandon Corna’s flyball to left field was misplayed.
Eggler made it 2-0 when he beat a throw home on Brandon Bessett’s grounder to shortstop. Corna, who took second on the play, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a passed ball to make it 3-0. Bessett also scored in the third for Oneonta, which tacked on three more runs in the fourth.
John Michael Mikolaicyk, Dalton Carver and Eggler drew one-out walks from Oxford reliever Jon Heggie in the fourth. Mikolaicyk scored on a wild pitch before Green doubled in Carver and Eggler for the final runs.
Eggler finished with two hits and two runs for the Hurricanes, who completed a 10-0 season under coaches Shawn Beckerink and Jeff Bishop.
Kyle Crawford and Tommy Voce had two hits apiece for Oxford, which received a double from Angelo Gonzalez.
Oneonta won Division B in the Otsenango PONY League with a 7-0 regular-season record.
Oxford (6-6) went 4-5 during the regular season but finished second in Division A to qualify for the playoffs.
