Hughes scored the first three goals and after Elmira (1-7, 0-2) pulled to 5-4, the Hawks scored four straight spanning the second and third quarters.
Cody Ciolino had a goal and three assists, and Mike Vaglica contributed two goals for Hartwick, which received 10 saves from Carl Lengel.
Hartwick (5-5, 1-2) hosts Nazareth this Saturday.
Cortland 13, Oneonta 6
Devon Casey’s second goal of Saturday’s game tied it at 4, but top-ranked Cortland scored the next four goals en route to a SUNY Athletic Conference victory at Oneonta State.
Casey and Daniel Stern scored in the first period, which ended with O-State (2-8, 0-2) ahead, 2-1.
KJ Theofield had Oneonta’s second-period goal as Cortland (10-0, 2-0) took a 4-3 lead into halftime.
Cortland’s four-goal spurt in the third period led to a 9-6 advantage entering the fourth. Cortland closed with a 4-0 advantage in the final period.
Senior goalie Chris Miles finished with a season-high 20 saves for Oneonta, which hosts Plattsburgh on Wednesday.
Keuka 20, Cobleskill 5
Senior attackman Mike Javaney and freshman midfielder Shane McKay had two goals apiece, but SUNY Cobleskill lost a North Eastern Athletic Conference game on the road Saturday.
The Storm (5-1, 3-0) jumped to a 14-1 lead at halftime.
Cobleskill (2-4, 0-3) hosts SUNYIT on Wednesday.

David Fernandes finished with three goals and two assists Saturday as Delhi, the fifth-ranked NJCAA team in the country, won a Mountain Valley Conference match at home.
Dom Saldutti scored three goals and Devlin Clarke had two goals and three assists for the Broncos, who took a 11-1 lead into halftime.
Evan Thompson made 28 saves for Mohawk Valley (0-7, 0-2), which was outshot, 41-19.
Starting goalie Matt Sialiano had six saves for Delhi (7-2, 2-0).

Senior Caroline Tulley became the fourth O-State woman to earn 200 all-time points as the Red Dragons earned their first road victory of the season by beating SUNYAC rival Buffalo State.
