Hartwick upsets Michigan for water polo title

Forkey (1-2) took the loss Sunday in an 8-3 setback against visiting Hudson Valley. McNulty hit a two-run homer, but the Broncos made seven errors that led to five unearned runs for the Vikings.

McNulty also hit a two-run homer in the second game, helping the Broncos to a 4-3 win. Her shot in the bottom of the sixth tied the score at 3.

McNulty (2-0) struck out five to earn the pitching victory for the Broncos (3-3), who host Broome on Thursday.

MEN’S TENNIS

Fisher 6, Hartwick 3

Peter Dumas and Brian Redder won singles matches and combined for a doubles win Sunday, but Hartwick (0-5) lost an Empire 8 match on the road.

The duo beat Tom Quinzi and Pat McGrath, 8-2, at first doubles.

Dumas also won his first of the season at first singles, downing Greg Duffy, 6-4, 6-4. Redder’s 6-4, 6-2 win over Dan Parshall marked his first victory of the spring as well.

The Hawks opened Empire 8 play Saturday with a 9-0 loss at Nazareth.

Hartwick hosts Alfred University this Sunday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Yellow Jacket Invitational

Princess Joefield’s sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:10.97) paced Cobleskill’s women during the Yellow Jacket Invitational at American International College on Saturday.

Stephanne Henzler contributed a ninth in the hammer throw with an NYSCTC-qualifying distance of 118 feet for the Fighting Tigers, who placed 15th out of 16 teams.

Cobleskill’s men, who tied for last in their 18-team invitational, got a seventh from Brendan Connor in the 10,000 (34:57.82).

NYSCTC qualifiers for the Fighting Tigers were Makhtar Barros (triple jump, 39-8.75); Marten Peterson (1,500, 4:06.98); Justin Contestabile (110 hurdles, 17.24); and Josh Miller (800, 2:01.14).
