OHS sophomore shuts down JC

Kellen Komenda, Quinn Barnhart, Jon Wingate, Lucas DeJoy and winning pitcher Alex Walley had two hits apiece to lead host Unatego to a non-league victory.

“The first two games we struggled hitting, but being outside and seeing live pitching has helped,” Unatego coach Frank Microni said.

The Spartans (2-1) scored three times in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Josh Feyerabend led off with the double and scored on a single by Walley. Tanner Winchester followed with a double before Phil Youngs hit a two-run single.

Walley allowed two hits over five innings. He struck out five and walked three. Derek Liner threw the final two innings for Unatego, which will travel to Oxford today.

Corbin Palmer’s 3-for-4 day included to two-run homer to right in the first inning as Bainbridge-Guilford built a 9-0 lead and then hung on for a non-league victory.

Palmer finished with three RBIs and teammate Tyler Ouimet contributed two hits and two RBIs.

Timmy Parsons had an RBI single and Ouimet had a sacrifice fly during a three-run third inning that ended with B-G ahead, 9-0.

But a six-run sixth inning pulled Afton to 9-8. Josh Davy had a two-run double, Ricky Parsons doubled and Joe Shearer had a two-run single in the inning.
