HONORSHawks’ Hughes recognized
Hartwick College senior Harry Hughes was named the Empire 8 Conference’s men’s lacrosse player of the week.
Hughes finished the week with eight goals and three assists. He had three goals in Hartwick’s 10-6 loss to Utica on Wednesday. On Saturday, Hughes had five goals in a 12-8 win over Elmira.
During the win over Elmira, Hughes became the Hawks’ all-time leading goal scorer. He scored his 176th goal to pass 1995 Hartwick graduate Ian Ritcey.
Hughes has 36 goals on the season, which leads the Empire 8 Conference.
Hughes, who’ll lead the Hawks into their E8 home game against Nazareth at 3 p.m. Saturday, also shared Hartwick’s Hawks of the Week honor with women’s lacrosse player Caroline Stanford.
Stanford, a sophomore defender, scored a free-position goal in Hartwick’s 18-12 win over Alfred on Saturday. She also had two groundballs and won a faceoff. The next day in a 13-10 los to Elmira, she had her college high of seven groundballs and caused a turnover.
