---- — Oneonta State received a one-hitter from sophomore Katie O’Flynn in a five-inning, 10-0 victory in the first game and then beat visiting Canton, 7-6, in eight innings in the second game of a non-conference softball doubleheader Monday.
O’Flynn had eight strike outs in earning her fourth victory of the season.
The first game ended on a three-run homer to left by freshman Meghan Foster. Senior Kalyn Deso contributed a two-run homer during the Red Dragons’ three-run first inning.
O-State (7-13) scored the winning run in the second game on a Deso’s RBI double with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Traci Lichtenstein went 4-for-4, and Chandler and Lauren Campbell each went 3-for-4.
Rachel Hitt earned her third win of the season.
O-State will host Brockport in a doubleheader at 3 p.m. Friday.
HONORSHawks’ Hughes recognized
Hartwick College senior Harry Hughes was named the Empire 8 Conference’s men’s lacrosse player of the week.
Hughes finished the week with eight goals and three assists. He had three goals in Hartwick’s 10-6 loss to Utica on Wednesday. On Saturday, Hughes had five goals in a 12-8 win over Elmira.
During the win over Elmira, Hughes became the Hawks’ all-time leading goal scorer. He scored his 176th goal to pass 1995 Hartwick graduate Ian Ritcey.
Hughes has 36 goals on the season, which leads the Empire 8 Conference.
Hughes, who’ll lead the Hawks into their E8 home game against Nazareth at 3 p.m. Saturday, also shared Hartwick’s Hawks of the Week honor with women’s lacrosse player Caroline Stanford.
Stanford, a sophomore defender, scored a free-position goal in Hartwick’s 18-12 win over Alfred on Saturday. She also had two groundballs and won a faceoff. The next day in a 13-10 los to Elmira, she had her college high of seven groundballs and caused a turnover.
Cobleskill athlete of the week
SUNY Cobleskill selected freshman Princess Joefield of the track team as its athlete of the week.
Joefield led the Fighting Tigers in the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday at America International College. She placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a New York State College Track Conference qualiyfing time of 1 minute, 10.97 seconds. She also earned a NYSCTC qualifying time in finishing 10th in the 100 hurdles in 16.51.
Cobleskill will compete in the Coach P Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Moravian College.
