Winning pitcher Noah Sheehan hit a walk-off, two-run double to left in the seventh inning to lead Oneonta Post 259 to a 3-2 District Six Legion baseball victory over Maine-Endwell on Tuesday at Oneonta High.
Trailing, 2-1, Connor Tavarone led off Oneonta’s seventh with a walk. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Garufi. After a flyout, Chris Pindar walked. Sheehan then worked the count to 3-2, before lifting a flyball that one-hopped the fence in left to score both runners.
Sheehan also had an RBI single in the fifth inning that tied the score at 1.
Left-hander Brock Eichler started for the Green Wave and pitched five innings. He allowed one unearned run on two hits. He walked one and struck out 10.
“That’s the livliest I’ve seen his fastball year,” Oneonta coach Mike Jester said of Eichler. “He is a strike-thrower and he does have command of his curveball and change-up. He had them baffled out there tonight. He commands the mound and gets counts in his favor.”
Sheehan worked the last two innings, allowing an unearned run in the seventh that gave M-E a 2-1 lead.
Oneonta (4-1, 1-0) will play in the Bath Tournament this weekend. It opens against Williamsville Lamm out of Buffalo at 8 p.m. Friday.
