Sign-ups set for baseball league

Oneonta Little League will run a summer baseball league for youths ages 8-11.

Players or parents interested in joining may sign up from 5:30-7 p.m. at Doc Knapp Field during the OLL’s major league championship game today. Registration forms are available at the concession stand.

Youth training program set

The Oneonta Family YMCA and the Parisian Foundation will hold a training camp for athletes in grades 7-12 this summer. Registration is required and begins today at the YMCA.

The program begins at 5:45 p.m. July 8 and will run Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Sixth Ward Booster Club Fields for five weeks.

A certified trainer and adult volunteer coaches will run the program, which is an intense training and strengthening course that will be offered two times per week (weather-permitting).

Cost is a one-time application fee of $25. Applications are available at the YMCA and at the fields. Waivers with parent signatures must be completed before participation.

Track meets begin Tuesday

The Hurley’s Heroes Track Club of Oneonta and the Oneonta State Athletic Department will host Twilight Track and Field Meets at 7 p.m. this Tuesday, as well as July 8 and Aug. 5, at Oneonta State.

All meets will include competition in the mile (14-and-over), the 50-meter dash (14-and-under), the 100 (open), the 400 (open), the 3,000 (14-and-over), the 200 (open), the 800 (open) and the high jump (14-and-over, if facilities are available).

Laurens baseball to hold raffle

The Laurens varsity baseball team will raffle off autographed memorabilia donated by Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons to support the team’s trip to South Carolina next season.

Raffle items include a jersey signed by R.A. Dickey, bats signed by Jose Reyes and Jose Bautista, and baseballs autographed by Mike Trout, Albert Pujols, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Dickey, Reyes and Bautista.
