---- — PLAY Ball today in Cooperstown

National Baseball Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Juan Marichal and Gaylord Perry will be the featured guests during the Hall of Fame Weekend’s annual PLAY Ball event, which runs from 8-11 a.m. today in Cooperstown.

The Hall originally announced that Rickey Henderson would participate in the event, but Major League Baseball’s all-time leader in runs and stolen bases has been replaced by two-time Cy Young Award winner and Hall of Fame pitcher Perry.

PLAY Ball is a museum fundraiser that supports the Hall’s educational programs and internship scholarships. Participants receive on-field, round-robin interaction with the Hall of Famers, along with special mementos to commemorate their experiences.

The event begins at 8 a.m. with an exclusive reception in the Hall’s Plaque Gallery. Following photos and stories, PLAY Ball participants will receive two hours of instruction from their Hall of Fame guides at a Cooperstown-area diamond.

A limited number of spaces for PLAY Ball remain, and a reservation is required. Event pricing is $450 for museum members and $600 for non-members. To reserve a spot, call 607-547-0397.

PLAY Ball is part of Hall of Fame Weekend, which will be highlighted by Sunday’s inductions of Hank O’Day, Jacob Ruppert and Deacon White.

The Hall will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, and from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday.
