---- —  STAFF REPORT

Malcolm Purdy scattered eight hits and four walks over seven innings and the bottom portion of Oneonta’s lineup scored all eight runs as the Outlaws beat the host Syracuse Junior Chiefs, 8-4, Monday in the New York Collegiate Baseball League.

Purdy (3-3) allowed two runs and struck out four as the Outlaws leap-frogged the Junior Chiefs into second place in the standings at 19-12. The third-place Junior Chiefs are 19-13.

Olean is atop the standings at 19-9.

No. 5 batter Evan Harasta, No. 6 hitter Heath Holder, No. 7 Howard Joe and No. 8 Spencer Duffie scored two runs apiece for the Outlaws. No. 9 hitter Ryan Tomita contributed two RBIs, as did Duffie.

In the second inning, Duffie hit a two-run single off of losing pitcher Jordan Fuller.

The Junior Chiefs, who stranded 12 runners, tied it in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double by Noel Garcia and an RBI single by Gary Jones.

Oneonta took the lead for keeps in the fifth, when Duffie singled, went to second on a groundout, advanced to third on a single by Jake Levine and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-2.

The next inning, the Outlaws scored three times to take a 6-2 advantage. Harasta doubled with one out. Holder followed with a walk and Joe singled to load the bases. After Duffie struck out, Tom Jordan relieved Fuller and walked Tomito to force in a run. Syracuse second baseman Alex Caruso then made an error on a ball hit by Levine that allowed Holder and Joe to score.

The Outlaws tacked on two more runs in the eighth on Tomito’s RBI double and a sacrifice fly by Mitch Hollander that made it 8-2.

Syracuse scored twice in the eighth off of Brandon Stephens.

Duffie finished with three hits, and Harasta and Levine had two apiece.

The Outlaws will host the Geneva Twins at 7 tonight.
