PLAY Ball set for Friday

National Baseball Hall of Famers Ozzie Smith, Rickey Henderson and Juan Marichal will be the featured guests during the Hall of Fame Weekend’s annual PLAY Ball event, which runs from 8-11 a.m. Friday in Cooperstown.

PLAY Ball is a museum fundraiser that supports the Hall’s educational programs and internship scholarships. Participants receive on-field, round-robin interaction with the Hall of Famers, along with special mementos to commemorate their experiences.

The event begins at 8 a.m. Friday with an exclusive reception in the Hall’s Plaque Gallery. Following photos and stories, PLAY Ball participants will receive two hours of instruction from their Hall of Fame guides at a Cooperstown-area diamond.

A limited number of spaces for PLAY Ball remain, and a reservation is required. Event pricing is $450 for museum members and $600 for non-members. To reserve a spot, call 607-547-0397.

Since the event started in 2002, Smith has helped raise more than $115,000 for the museum’s educational outreach programs and the Ozzie Smith Diversity Scholarships, presented annually to members of the Frank and Peggy Steele Internship Program for Youth Leadership Development.

PLAY Ball is part of Hall of Fame Weekend, which will be highlighted by the July 28 inductions of Hank O’Day, Jacob Ruppert and Deacon White.

The Hall will be open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Friday, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. July 27, and from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. July 28.
