Hartwick women move to 3-0

Taylor Vonasek and Brittney Dumas shared game-high scoring honors with 15 points apiece Friday, leading Hartwick College to a 51-46 victory over Salem College in the opening round of the William Peace University Jackie Ammons Memorial Tournament.

Dumas also grabbed a game-best 14 rebounds for the Hawks (3-0), who received 11 points from Maria Foglia and 11 rebounds from Kate Purcell.

Hartwick took a 28-11 lead into halftime, but the Spirits rallied to cut their deficit to 48-46 with 14 seconds left.

Foglia made two foul shots with 10.3 seconds to go, making it a two-possession game. Salem then missed a three-point field goal attempt and fouled Dumas, who hit 1 of 2 free throws to cap the scoring.

The Hawks shot 34.6 percent from the field (18-for-52) and 52.6 percent from the foul line (10-for-19).

Tiffany Wildgoose’s 12 points led Salem, which went 17-for-62 from the floor (27 percent).

Hartwick will play for the championship at 3 p.m. Saturday.
