MVP Griffiths leads Milford to victory in host tourney

Tournament MVP Peyton Griffiths scored 14 points to help Milford to a 52-25 boys basketball victory over Franklin in the championship game of the Anton Remy Tournament on Saturday.

All-tournament selections Will Ward and Max Lang contributed 17 and 10 points, respectively, for the Wildcats, who led 32-4, at halftime.

“I’m pleased with our defense,” Milford coach Frank Spurchise said. “We’ve done very well in the first two games. We’ve allowed 16 points total in the first half in two games.”

Griffiths, Ward and Lang combined to score 30 points in the first half. Griffiths had 12, and Ward and Lang had nine apiece.

“Along with the defense, I’m pleased with the way we’re sharing the ball,” Spurchise said.

Eli Rutledge finished with nine points and nine rebounds for Milford (2-0), which will host Cherry Valley-Springfield on Dec. 4.

All-tournament selection Derek Beers had 13 points to lead Franklin.

Wyatt Crowley scored a game-high 19 points and had eight assists to lead Cherry-Valley Springfield to a consolation victory in the Anton Remy Tournament at Milford.

Crowley, who was selected to the all-tournament team, scored nine of his 19 points in the Patriots’ 24-1 run in the first quarter.

Dustin Collins contributed 12 points and six blocks for CV-S (1-1), which will travel to Milford on Dec. 4.
