Jackets' baseball streak snapped by Owego

Winning pitcher Brent Hecker struck out 11 and walked three in six innings before Josh Holtham threw a scoreless seventh for the save. Hecker and Holtham (two-run double) had two hits apiece.

Sawyer Haney took the pitching loss for Cooperstown, which visits Hamilton on Wednesday.

Freshman Josh Feyerabend struck out seven and walked three in a one-hitter to lead host Unatego to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

Feyerabend threw 89 pitches, allowing an infield single to Zack Decker with two outs in the sixth inning.

“He loves baseball and he does a lot in the offseason,” Unatego coach Frank Microni said of Feyerabend, who is 2-0. “He’s mature for his grade. He’s a big, strong kid for a freshman.”

Microni said Feyerabend spotted his fastball well and mixed in an occasional curveball.

Kellen Komenda, Jon Wingate, Phil Youngs and Nick Angell had two hits apiece, and Quinn Barnhart had a pair of RBIs for the Spartans (5-2, 3-0), who will travel to Delhi on Wednesday.

A two-run single by Kurt Haycook highlighted an eight-run second inning that lifted host Unadilla Valley to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

Haycook had three hits. Brandon Kuhn and Dakota Kolvik each contributed two hits for the Storm.

Nate Shackelton struck out seven and walked two for UV (2-3, 2-1), which will play at Hancock on Wednesday.

Damian Zimmer had four hits for Sidney.
