Yellowjackets rebound with 20-4 rout of Saints

Mason Montgomery and Zach King drove in five runs apiece Thursday, leading the defending Class B state champion Oneonta High baseball team to a 20-4 rout of host Seton Catholic Central.

Noah Sheehan tripled and doubled in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference game at NYSEG Stadium in Binghamton, and Oneonta teammate Conor Tavarone scored three times.

The Yellowjackets’ 13-hit attack helped junior Kevin Smith to his first pitching victory. He struck out five, walked three and allowed two earned runs on four hits in six innings.

“Kevin pitched a strong game for us,” said OHS coach Joe Hughes, whose team rebounded from a 7-3 loss to Owego on Monday that snapped the Jackets’ 19-game winning streak. “He did a real nice job and benefited from some offensive fireworks. ... We had contributions up and down the lineup.”

Montgomery, King, Sheehan, Tavarone and Chris Pindar each had two hits for OHS (4-1, 2-1), which visits Chenango Forks today.

Gilboa 8, Jefferson 7

Winning pitcher Hunter Grace struck out nine and drove in four runs to lead visiting Gilboa to a Delaware League victory.

Grace finished 3-for-4 for the Wildcats, who received three hits and three runs from Mike Smith.

John Quagliano went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs for Jefferson (3-3, 2-2), which got two hits from Michael Greiner.

Quagliano had an RBI single int he seventh and stole second but was stranded when Grace induced a game-ending groundout.

The J-Hawks visit Stamford today for a non-leaguer.

Stamford 12, SK 3

Greg Mattice finished with four runs, three hits and two RBIs to lead host Stamford to a Delaware League win.

Matt Anderson and winning pitcher Erik Ehrhart (two RBIs) contributed two hits apiece for the Indians, who held an 8-1 lead after two innings. Ehrhart struck out 10, walked four and allowed two hits in five innings.

Geoff Mattice had two RBIs for Stamford (3-1, 2-0), which hosts Jefferson today.

Griff Metzko hit an RBI triple in the fifth for the Rams.

Zach Meyer went 3-for-3 with two RBIs, and Michael Lennon and Anthony Savasta combined to strike out 10 in a three-hitter as Windham won in the Delaware League.

The game was played at Hunter-Tannersville, but it counted as a home game for the Warriors, whose field is not playable.

Reliever Savasta struck out six over four scoreless innings.

Windham (3-1, 1-1) will travel to Germantown on Saturday.

Colyn Bonadies’ five-hitter included 12 strikeouts and Kevin Doig went 2-for-2 with four RBIs as host Downsville won at home in the Delaware League.

Kyle Short had two hits for Margaretville.

The Eagles (2-0, 2-0) will travel to Jefferson on Monday.

Spencer Hinkley went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI as visiting Roxbury won in the Delaware League.

Roxbury took an 8-5 lead in the fourth inning when Dakota Caronia singled, stole second and eventually scored on a groundout.

Cody Wamsley and Justin Fisher had three hits apiece for Davenport (1-4), which will host Deposit at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Jake Mazzarella had three hits, and Corbin Palmer and Austin Bauerle contributed two hits apiece to lead host Bainbridge-Guilford in the Midstate Athletic Conference.’

The Bobcats (6-1) took a 6-2 lead in the third inning, when winning pitcher Devon Rivera and Corbin Palmer led off with singles and eventually came around to score on a single by Bauerle. After Bauerle stole second, Tyler Ouimet singled him home.

B-G will host Oxford on Monday.

Kolvik scored three runs, and Haycook had two RBIs and two runs.

Clayton Hawes went 3-for-3, with a homer and two RBIs for Edmeston, which received two hits from Clayton Lyon.

Edmeston, which also received a home run from Josh Nicolosi, is 4-1.
