Phillips three-hits Hancock as Afton softball rolls

Cassidy Phillips struck out eight and walked none in a three-hitter Thursday as Afton cruised to a 7-2 softball victory over host Hancock in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

Phillips (four RBIs), Connor Decker, Kate Werth and Tanya Hatton had two hits apiece for the Crimson Knights, who scored four times in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead.

“Phillips had two RBIs in the fifth and two in the sixth,” Hancock coach Kim Makowski said. “She kind of did it all today.”

Lea Newman struck out six, walked none and hit two batters in the pitching loss, falling to 4-1 this season.

Hancock (5-1, 3-1) visits Greene today.

Justine Pratt went 3-for-3 with three runs and an RBI for host Bainbridge-Guilford, which won a five-inning MAC game.

Teammate Megan Ferrara singled and homered over the fence in left-center field, the latter in a seven-run second inning that ended with the Bobcats ahead, 9-4.

Taylor Palmatier earned the pitching victory after relieving Morgan Shew with none out in the second inning. Palmatier allowed no hits the rest of the way.

B-G (2-3, 2-3) hosts Oxford on Monday.

Sara Coons went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a triple for Gilboa, which cruised to a Delaware League win at home.

Skylie Roberts contributed three hits and four RBIs for the Wildcats (4-0, 2-0). She also gave up one run in the fifth for the J-Hawks, who got their only hit when Shiann Bellinger singled in the second inning off starter Allison McGuire (4-0).

Gilboa hosts Roxbury on Tuesday.

SK 10, Stamford 9

Rachel Hanselman’s RBI walkoff RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning capped a three-run rally that lifted the host Rams to a Delaware League victory.

Rosie Post tripled to lead off South Kortright’s eighth. She scored on Kelsey Little’s double. After Savannah Hobbie walked, Lexi DuBois tied with an RBI single. Kayla Craft was hit by a pitch setting up Hanselman’s winning single.

Stamford took a 9-7 in the top of the inning on Kaitlyn Fallon’s two-run single.

Fallon finished 3-for-5 for the Indians.

Little and Taylor Sherwood had three hits apiece for SK (1-2), which will travel to Roxbury on Monday.

Maggie Charbanneau went 4-for-6 with two RBIs to lead Windham to a five-inning victory in the Delaware League.

Susannah Simpfenderfer had three hits and two RBIs, and Brianna Jaeger finished with two hits for the Warriors.

Hunter-Tannersville played without starting pitcher Samantha Dibbell, who has a knee injury.

Winning pitcher Kennedy Linger struck out five and walked three in a one-hitter.

H-T will host Stamford on Saturday.

Winning pitcher Rachel Mathiesen went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and scored the winning run to lead visiting Margaretville to a Delaware League victory.

In Margaretville’s two-run seventh, the Blue Devils scored the tying run on a walk by losing pitcher Kaileen Townsend and the winning run on a wild pitch.

Kellsey Buerge also had two hits for the Blue Devils.

Townsend and Chelsea Doig both doubled for Downsville.

Margaretville (3-3,3-0) will play Hunter-Tannersville on Tuesday.

Marissa Mehlrose struck out five and walked none in a four-hitter to lead Gilbertsville Mount-Upton to a non-league victory.

Hannah Bohacek’s RBI double drove in Samantha Saunders in the sixth inning to pull Unatego within a run.

G-MU is 4-1 overall.

Winning pitcher Catherine Johnson, an eigth-grader, doubled and had three RBIs to lead host Edmeston to a non-league victory.

Johnson struck out 10 and walked three in a three-hitter.

Edmeston’s Sydney Smith also contributed three RBIs, including a fifth-inning triple that gave which gave Edmeston the lead.

Jordan Anderson and Blaize Kolvik combined for three RBIs for the Storm, whose seven-run rally in the top of the fifth tied the score.

Edmeston (5-0) will play travel to Milford today.
