Freshman lifts OHS softball over Norwich


at Milford

Aidan Staib placed first in the shot put and the discus, and ran a leg on Gilbertsville-Mount Upton/Morris’ victorious 400-meter relay team as G-MU/M won a Tri-Valley League boys meet.

Staib put the shot 39 feet and threw the discus 114-11.

Lucas Seneck won the 100 (11.88) and the 200 (24.94), and Cameron Grant-Hill placed first in the 400 (58.16) and the 1,600 (5:06.59) for G-MU/M.

Milford’s Elijah Rutledge cleared 5-10 to win the high jump.

G-MU/M finished with 70 points, 40 better than Milford and 50 ahead of Andes.

G-MU/M’s girls also won. They finished with 61 points, three ahead of Milford. Andes had 11.

Christina Hawkins won the shot put (31-5) and the discus (112-5) for G-MU/M.

Emilie Mertz and Keira Higgins had two wins apiece for Milford. Mertz won the 200 (28.9) and the 400 (1:05.56), and Higgins placed first in the 1,500 (5:50.85) and the 3,000 (13:11.85).

Milford will run in the Tri-Valley League Relays at 4 p.m. Friday at Oneonta High.

at Delhi

Brandt McCall won the 100 in 11.9 seconds to pace Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton’s boys, who took first in the 400 relay (47.7) and the 1,600 relay (3:51.5) en route to a MAC road victory.

B-G/A won with 112.5 points, followed by Sidney at 95, Delhi at 61, Walton at 41 and Greene at 30.5.

Russell Cobane led Delhi with wins in the 110 hurdles (17.5), the 400 hurdles (1:03.9) and the long jump (18-8.75). Teammate Declan Kottmeier doubled up in the 1,600 (4:42.5) and the 3,200 (10:34.5).

Sidney got two wins apiece from Dean Howard (200, 24.1; 400, 52.6) and Austin Dean (shot put, 40-9; discus, 132-1).

Bethany Karl took the shot put (33-1.5) and the discus (100-2.5) to lead Sidney’s girls to a team win with 114 points.

Second-place B-G/A, which scored 100 points, got four victories from Julia Knapp. She won the 100 hurdles (15.8), the 400 hurdles (1:09.7), the long jump (15-2) and the triple jump (32-10). The Bears also got a double from Matilda Knapp in the 100 (13.1) and the 200 (27.3).
