B-G baseball shuts down Greene, 3-0

Staff Report

Kyle Hanvey’s inside-the-park home run to lead off the third inning capped the scoring as host Bainbridge-Guilford beat Greene, 3-0, in a Midstate Athletic Conference baseball game.

“He legged it out,” B-G coach Tim Mattingly said of Hanvey, who beat the throw home after sending the ball to center field. “He hit it to the deepest part of our park. It was a shot.”

Sean Jones and Ryan Jones had the other hits for the Bobcats (3-4, 2-3), who received RBIs on fielder’s choices from Lucas Butcher in the first inning and from Dylan Mondore in the second.

Zach Ouimet, a freshman, struck out six and walked six in a three-hitter for his first varsity pitching victory.

“He’s turning into my No. 2 pitcher,” Mattingly said. “He kept the ball low and just pounded the strike zone. He pitched an outstanding game for us.”

B-G plays host Sidney on Friday at Field 6 in Oneonta’s Neahwa Park.

Walton 14, Delhi 5

Winning pitcher Steven Klein struck out eight, walked three and scattered eight hits to lead Walton to a MAC win on the road.

Klein also had three hits, a run and an RBI for the Warriors (1-4, 1-4), who got a triple, two runs and two RBIs in a 2-for-4 effort from Dylan Wood.

Jared Beach and Robert Merrill doubled for Walton, which hosts Harpursville today.

Peter Lemakos finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI for the Bulldogs (1-6, 1-6), who received doubles from Brandon Mole (2-for-4, run) and Tyler Dugan.

Delhi visits Deposit on Friday.

Oxford 5, UV 3

The Blackhawks rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh and then wriggled out of a jam in the bottom of the inning to win in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

The game was played at Oxford, but Unadilla Valley batted second. The Storm were supposed to host the game, but their field was not playable.
