SUNY Cobleskill clinched a playoff berth in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament with a pair of softball victories over visiting Cazenovia College, 4-3 and 8-3, on Thursday.
Facing a 3-0 deficit in the sixth inning of the opener, the Fighting Tigers got singles from Madeline DiMilio and Erika Gogis to set up Kelsey DeZalia for an RBI single. Julia Lull followed with a two-run double to left-center field to tie the score.
Gabriella Barilli then hit a two-out single in the seventh and scored the winner when DiMilio hit a walk-off triple into a gap in right-center field.
DiMilio went 3-for-4 with a double, two triples, a stolen base, a run and the winning RBI for the Fighting Tigers (15-7, 13-3), who got RBIs from Lull and DeZalia. Erin Wadsworth struck out nine and walked eight in a two-hitter to improve to 9-2 this season.
Cobleskill rallied from a 3-2 in the fifth inning to win the second game. Mattea Bagley doubled home Gogis and DeZalia to give the Fighting Tigers the lead. Lull then hit a two-run homer to center.
Bagley finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Lull drove in two runs for Cobleskill, which won its sixth straight game.
Brianne Gray struck out four and walked none to move to 6-4 this season.
The Wildcats fell to 5-19 overall and 4-8 in the NEAC.
Cobleskill visits Keuka for a NEAC doubleheader on Saturday.
Hartwick 8, Utica 1
Hartwick College swept doubles play Thursday en route to an Empire 8 Conference victory at Utica College.
Will Gilbraith and Brian Redder won at first doubles, Liam Brown and Jefferson Monastoque teamed for a win at second doubles, and Sean Coppola joined Matt Behn for a victory at third doubles.
Redder, Gilbraith, Coppola, Monastoque and Ross Braue contributed singles triumphs for the Hawks, who host St. John Fisher on Saturday.
