Sidney nips Bainbridge-Guilford in MAC baseball; UV edges Greene

Staff Report

Patrick Vibbard and Billy Kozak had hits and scored during a two-run sixth inning that led host Sidney to a 7-5 Midstate Athletic Conference baseball victory over Bainbridge-Guilford on Friday at Field 6 in Oneonta’s Neahwa Park.

Vibbard led off Sidney’s sixth with a double to right-center. He took third on a passed ball. Alex Hoskins then hit a popup into foul territory. B-G first baseman Kyle Hanvey reached over the fence to make the catch, but his momentum carried him to the ground. Vibbard tagged from third and scored the go-ahead run.

“Heads up base-running,” Sidney coach Kyle Vibbard said of his son’s run.

Kozak singled with two outs, stole second and third, and scored on a wild pitch.

Winning pitcher Kozak worked out of a two-on and no-out jam in the top of the sixth.

Vibbard and Hoskins had two hits apiece for Sidney (9-3, 6-0), which will play Unadilla Valley at 11 a.m. Saturday at Damaschke Field.

Lucas Butcher and Cole Webb had two hits apiece for Bainbridge-Guilford.

UV 8, Greene 7

Unadilla Valley scored five times in the seventh inning to rally for a MAC road victory.

Andrew Radke’s RBI double gave the Storm a 7-6 lead and Austin Taylor followed with an RBI single.

Greene scored in the bottom of the inning and had a runner on first when winning pitcher Mason Alford retired the final batter on a flyout.

Alford had two hits for UV (5-3, 2-3), which will play Sidney at 11 a.m. Saturday at Damaschke Field.

Zach Lindow had two hits for Greene.

Hancock 10, Unatego 9

Jake DeJoy doubled and Kellen Komenda singled in the sixth, when the Spartans took advantage of two errors to score three runs but fell short in a MAC home game.

Zach Worobey homered in the fourth to give Hancock a 6-5 lead as the Wildcats scored five times in the inning.
