Babe’s plaque off to NYC
Babe Ruth’s National Baseball Hall of Fame plaque will make appearances at Yankee Stadium today and at Grand Central Terminal on Wednesday in support of Metro-North’s “Getaway Day Staycation Showcase Featuring I Love NY’s Path Through History,” the Cooperstown shrine announced last week.
Ruth’s plaque will leave Cooperstown for the first time this week. Part of the Hall’s first class in 1936, Ruth made his major league debut 100 years ago this season, on July 11, 1914. To commemorate this milestone, the Hall will open a new gallery titled “Babe Ruth: His Life and Legend” on June 13. The opening will be one day after the Hall celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Ruth’s plaque will be a part of an on-field pre-game ceremony today at Yankee Stadium and will be on display in the Yankees Museum from 7:30 p.m. through the end of the eighth inning of tonight’s game against the New York Mets.
On Wednesday, the plaque will be on display in Vanderbilt Hall of Grand Central Terminal from 11:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. to help promote New York state’s “Path Through History” weekend to Cooperstown and the central Leatherstocking Region from June 12-14.
Ruth’s plaque is scheduled to return to the Hall of Fame Gallery on Thursday. For more information, visit the website www.baseballhall.org/hof/ruth-babe.
