Eichler solid as Oneonta downs CV|

Brock Eichler struck out eight and walked one Monday to lead host Oneonta High to a 5-3 baseball win over Chenango Valley in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

''He pitched a solid game,'' OHS coach Joe Hughes said of Eichler, a junior who scattered seven hits to earn his second victory of the season.

Bennett Eggler went 2-for-4 for the Yellowjackets. He hit an RBI single in the third inning and a two-run double in the fourth to give Oneonta a 5-3 lead.

Peter Brunetta had two hits, an RBI single in the first and a double in the fourth for OHS (9-8, 7-8), which will host Susquehanna Valley today.

Sidney 6, Oxford 3

Brandon Bessett went 3-for-3, including a two-run double in the fourth inning, to lead top-seeded Sidney to victory in a Midstate Athletic Conference semifinal.

Patrick Vibbard had a RBI triple in the fourth inning to give Sidney a 5-1 lead. Vibbard finished with two hits for Sidney (15-4, 12-0), which will face second-seeded Hancock in the MAC final Thursday at Afton.

Matt Moore and Cameron Heggie contributed a double apiece for Oxford.

Hancock 7, Unatego 0

Senior left-hander Ryan Smith struck out 15 and walked one in a one-hitter, and Eli Holton homered, doubled twice had had three RBIs to lead host Hancock to victory in a Midstate Athletic Conference semifinal.

"He mixed his pitches well, he got ahead of guys and when he got ahead he put guys away," Hancock coach Brandon Olbrys said of Smith. "I would have to say in his career, his best pitching has been in May."

Unatego's lone hit came on a single to center by Kyle Spaulding with two outs in the fourth inning.

Holton hit a two-run homer to center in the first inning. Smith singled in front of him.
