Laurens 4, RS 2
Mitchel Barra struck out 12, walked three and scattered three hits as visiting Laurens won in the Tri-Valley League.
‘‘His curveball was working well and keeping them off balance,’’ Laurens coach Josh Nelligan said of Barra’s pitching.
Laurens scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to snap a 2-all tie. Mason Weir’s RBI single gave Laurens a 3-2 lead and Mitchell Carrigan’s RBI single scored the final run.
Weir finished 3-for-4 for the Leopards (7-8, 7-6), who received two hits, two steals and a run from Jerry Soucia.
Thomas Worobey finished 2-for-3 with an RBI double to lead Richfield Springs.
Laurens will next play in the Section Four Class D tournament, the first time in four years have qualified for the postseason.
‘‘They are very resilient. They earned this,’’ Nelligan said.
Franklin 10, GM-U 2
Joe Terrano struck out 12, walked one and scattered two hits over seven innings as Franklin won in the Tri-Valley League.
The game was played at Franklin, but Gilbertsville-Mount Upton batted second.
Terrano was also 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
‘‘He’s our workhorse. He had good command,’’ Franklin coach Darryl Beers said of Terrano’s pitching.
Billy Davis went 2-for-3 with four RBIs to pace the Purple Devils (6-7, 6-7), who honored seniors Joe Smith, Lynndon Huyck, and Tristin Hewitt.
Derek Beers was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI for the Devils, who qualified for sectional play three years after not fielding a team.
‘‘It is a big accomplishment,’’ Beers said.
