Recent Oneonta State graduate Bridget McHugh is taking her talents to Italy.
McHugh, a four-year starter on the Red Dragons volleyball team, will join a group of 10 Division III players in representing the United States on a tour of Italy to play volleyball from Sunday through June 16.
The tour is part of USA Athletes International, which organizes tours and all-star teams to play and compete all over the world in 15 sports.
The U.S. team will be coached by Jonathan Penn from Vassar College, and includes players from Hope College (Md.), Hunter College, New Jersey City University, Cortland State and Sage.
The tour begins with the team’s arrival Sunday in Venice, where it will transfer to Gorizia to compete in its first match. The team will play four more matches as it travels to Tuscany, Florence, Pisa and Rome throughout the week.
“I could not be more grateful for the support I’ve received from my team, coaches, family and the athletic department, and I am honored to represent them and the U.S. in Italy,” McHugh said in a media release sent by O-State.
