O-State softball duo honored by ECAC

Staff Report

Oneonta State softball players Traci Lichtenstein and Sabrina DeAngelis received First Team honors on the Eastern College Athletic Conference’s Division III Upstate All-Star Team for the 2014 season, the ECAC announced Wednesday.

Sophomore designated player Lichtenstein led the SUNY Athletic Conference in RBIs with a single-season program record of 43 for the Red Dragons, who went 30-11 and clinched an NCAA Division III Tournament berth as the SUNYAC Tournament champions.

Lichtenstein, who batted .358 this past season, also led Oneonta in home runs (five), total bases (67) and slugging percentage (.545). Her ECAC First Team Award follows First Team selections to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Northeast Region Team and the All-SUNYAC Team.

Freshman DeAngelis made the ECAC First Team as a pitcher who struck out 115 and held opponents to a .234 batting average in 164 2/3 innings. The SUNYAC Rookie and Pitcher of the Year also received Second Team accolades on the NFCA Northeast All-Region Team after going 18-7 with a 1.75 ERA. DeAngelis led the SUNYAC in shutouts (five), strikeouts and victories.

The ECAC recognized University of Rochester senior first baseman Nina Korn as its Player of the Year, freshman teammate Eleni Wechsler (utility) as its Rookie of the Year, and Stevens Institute of Technology senior Kayla Berardi as its Pitcher of the Year among upstate D-III candidates.
