Milford girls nip Patriots in Remy

Staff Report

Addy Lawson hit two late free throws Thursday, capping a 10-point effort that lifted host Milford to a 40-38 girls basketball victory over Cherry Valley-Springfield in the opening round of the Anton Remy Tournament.

Lawson also had 10 rebounds and eight steals for the Wildcats, who received a game-high 12 points from Peggy Paffenroth in the season opener for both teams.

The Patriots’ Maddie Archer also scored 12 points.

Cherry-Valley Springfield, which was outscored, 13-9, in the fourth quarter, plays Franklin at 6 p.m. today in the second game of the three-team round-robin tournament.

Milford will face Franklin at 5:45 p.m. Saturday in the tournament finale.

Davenport 50, Walton 29

Melissa Sperry scored 17 points to lead Davenport to a non-league road win in the season opener for both teams.

Jenna Lutz contributed 12 points for the Wildcats, who held an 8-0 lead after one quarter.

Mikaelan Cucciarre-Stuligross and Cortney Miller scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Walton, which hosts Fallsburg in the Walton Tip-Off Tournament on Tuesday.

Andes 31, Windham 26

Shianne Coss scored 11 points to lead the Mountaineers to a Delaware League road win in its season opener.

Cheyenne Weaver contributed eight points for Andes, which held Windham to 10 points in the second half.

Rachel Iacono’s seven points paced the Warriors, who host Jefferson on Wednesday.

Roxbury 39, H-T 35

Kennedy Faraci scored a game-best 15 points for Roxbury, which received 11 from Kendall Sprague in a season-opening road win.

Sprague snapped a 34-all tie by hitting a basket with about two minutes left, helping Roxbury rally from 10 points down in the third quarter.

Taylor Firmalino finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds and five steals for Hunter-Tannersville (1-2, 0-2), which visits at Andes on Wednesday.

Stamford 51,

Downsville 42

Cassie Ehrhart scored 20 points and Kim Freer had 18 to lift Stamford to a season-opening road win in the Delaware League.
