The Empire 8 Conference named Hartwick College freshman forward Brittney Dumas its Rookie of the Week for women’s basketball Monday.
Dumas helped the Hawks to victories over Oneonta State and Morrisville last week. Dumas had seven points and three rebounds in Hartwick’s 48-38 win over O-State on Wednesday in a matchup of teams that qualified for the NCAA Division III tournament last season.
On Saturday, Dumas scored her college high of 13 points, and contributed seven rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a 69-33 win over Morrisville.
Dumas is averaging 8.5 points and 6.3 rebounds.
The Hawks (5-1) will host Utica College tonight in their E8 opener.
O-State sophomore honored
Oneonta State sophomore J.D. Roth was named the SUNY Athletic Conference’s Field Athlete of the Week in track and field.
Roth set an O-State indoor record in the shot put during the Cornell Relays on Saturday. Roth’s distance of 50 feet, 2 ¼ inches was three feet better than the old record set in 2009. He placed second in the event and qualified for the ECAC Championships in the process. Roth also placed seventh in the 35-pound weight throw.
Last winter, Roth earned all-conference honors.
The Red Dragons will compete in the Ithaca College Quad Meet on Saturday.
Hawks of the Week
Sophomore equestrian rider Julia Ready and junior men’s basketball player Jared Suderley were named Hartwick College’s Hawks of the Week.
Ready earned High Point Rider at the Skidmore Show in the final competition of the first semester. She placed first in intermediate fences and novice flat.
Suderley averaged 22.3 points and 6.7 rebounds, with five three-pointers, four assists, four steals and four blocks in leading the Hawks to three wins last week.
His biggest output came in an 83-68 win over Morrisville on Saturday. He scored 32 points on 11-for-19 shooting, made all three of his three-point attempts, grabbed 10 rebounds, had two assists, two steals and a block.

SUNY Cobleskill freshman T.J. Moade was named the Fighting Tigers’ athlete of the week.
Moade finished fourth in the 500-meter dash in 1 minute, 6.72 seconds in the Jay Carisella Invitational on Saturday at Boston Univesity.
That time qualified Moade for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II and the New York State College Track Conference championships.
Cobleskill will compete in the Rochester Institute of Technology Early Season Invitational at 4 p.m. Thursday.
