Cooperstown boys drop season opener


Brooks Harmon contributed 11 points and four blocks for the Bobcats (3-0), who host Afton on Dec. 13.

Mitchell Barra scored a game-high 22 points and David Fraser had 12 to pace the Leopards (1-1), who trailed, 35-17, at halftime.

RS 57, SS 22

Joe Kelly scored a game-high 10 points to lead Richfield Springs to a non-league road victory over Sharon Springs in its season opener.

Lucas VanRiper contributed eight points for the Indians, who held a 28-5 lead after one quarter.

Deposit 43, Afton 35

Matt Mills scored a game-high 20 points to lead visiting Deposit to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

James Westfall scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter for Afton (0-1), which hosts Hancock on Friday.

Roxbury 39, Davenport 33

Derek Cowam scored a game-high 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead host Roxbury to a Delaware League victory.

Matthew Finne had two three-pointers and a team-best eight points for Davenport.

Dakota Caronia had nine points and six rebounds for Roxbury (1-2, 1-1), which visits South Kortright on Thursday.

Windham 47, Jefferson 43

David Saunders scored a team-high 15 points to lead visiting Windham to a Delaware League victory.

James Reeves had a game-high 17 points for Jefferson, which shot 4-for-20 from the free throw line. That effort included a 1-for-8 showing in the fourth quarter, when Jefferson outscored Windham, 11-7.

“That makes a difference,” Jefferson coach Rick Cammer said.

Jefferson (0-1) visits Roxbury on Tuesday.

Margaretville 44, Gilboa 42

Kyle Short, Mitch Hull and Cooper Reither scored in double digits to lead Margaretville to a Delaware League road win.

Short paced the Blue Devils, who held a 10-4 after one quarter, with 12 points. Hull and Reither scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Gilboa, which missed four shots in the last 8 seconds, returns to Margaretville on Thursday for a first-round game in the Margaretville Holiday Tournament.
