Oneonta High received pins from Mitchell Spaziani, Timmy Bemis, Austin Scheer, James Longo, and Corey Corkwell, but lost a Southern Tier Athletic Confernce wrestling match, 40-36, to visiting Chenango Forks on Wednesday.
At 140, Bemis pinned Jimmy Dyer in two minutes, and 49 seconds. Scheer needed 3:40 to pin Austin Loncoy at 145.
At 152, Longo pinned Dylan Studer in 1:37. Corkwell pinned Jake Barnett with one second left in the first period of their 285-pound match.
Oneonta (0-1) will compete in the Red Creek Dual Meet at 9 a.m. Saturday.
B-G/A 42, S-E 39
Josh Lindsay’s pin of Hunter Zybineski at 99 pounds sealed Bainbridge-Guilford/Afton’s non-league road victory.
Wrestling in the second-to-last match of the night, Lindsay pinned Zybineski in 1 minute, 18 seconds to give the Bears a 42-33 lead.
Ben Bivar (126), Jesse Griswold (145), Justin Cirigliano (152), Jamie Griswold (160) and Mark Viviano (195) also had pins for B-G/A.
Tri-Valley 66, Walton 48
Colin Adam scored 15 points and teammate Eric Zimmerman had 13, but Walton fell in the opening round of its tournament.
Alex Brown led Tri-Valley with 13 points.
“We are young. We start four juniors and a sophomore, but I am happy with the way we competed tonight,” Walton coach Gary Williams said. “Some foul trouble and their speed caught up with us in the second quarter.”
Walton (0-1) will face Unatego in the consolation game at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Sullivan West 67, Unatego 58
Tyler Butler had a team-high 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds, but the Spartans fell to Sullivan West in the opening round of the Walton Tip-Off Tournament.
After the teams played to a 26-all tie in the first half, Sullivan West outscored Unatego, 22-6, in the third quarter. Matt Cardona scored 12 of his game-high 29 points, including four three-pointers, in the third quarter to lead SW.
