Roth’s winning throw at Ithaca on Saturday traveled 54 feet, 5 1/4 inches, besting the previous mark of 53-1 1/2 set by Mike DeVasto in 2009. Roth also won the shot put Saturday.
Roth’s distance of 16.59m (54’ 5 ¼”) in the weight throw went over a foot farther than the old record of 16.19m (53’ 1 ½”) that was set at the SUNYAC championship in 2009 by Mike DeVasto.
O-State coach hits milestone
Oneonta State wrestling coach Duane Ritter earned his 100th victory Saturday at Johnson & Wales University.
The Red Dragons went 2-1, beating Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Williams College. They lost to the host school.
Ritter, in his ninth season with the Red Dragons, earned his 100th Division III win against Williams. He has an overall record of 100-61-3.
O-State (2-5) will compete in the Gulf Coast Duals at Fort Myers, Fla., on Sunday.
Cobleskill athlete of the week
SUNY Cobleskill sophomore Quashanda Barnes earned athlete of the week honors from her school.
In a high jump field of 44 at the Harvard Invitational on Saturday, Barnes cleared a personal-best 5-foot-1 to place third. That effort qualified her for the New York State College Track Conference Championships on Feb. 22-23 at Ithaca College.
