Oneonta wins District Seven LL title

(Continued)

M-E 7, Oneonta 0

Jude Abbadessa threw a perfect game retiring all 18 batters -- striking out nine of them -- in leading Maine-Endwell to victory in the 10-and-under District Seven Little League championship game at Oneonta’s Minor League Field.

“They’re a good club,” Oneonta coach Bob Goble said of M-E, which advanced to sectional play in Oswego this weekend. “They’re well coached and well disciplined. They were ready to play and we just came out a little flat and a little intimidated. Their coach said we’re the best he’s seen. Our kids threw strikes for the most part. We just didn’t have good at-bats, but a lot of that was what (Abbadessa) was doing.”

The closest Oneonta came to a hit came was in the bottom of the sixth, when Kar-ri Lawrence hit a ball to right-center to lead off. M-E right fielder Connor Rush made a diving catch to preserve Abbadessa’s no-hitter.

M-E took a 3-0 in the first inning against Oneonta’s Andrew Shapiro. Davis Wanchisen hit a two-run double in the inning.

Shapiro finished with three strikeouts over three innings. Tanner Russin threw the last three innings for Oneonta. He also had three strikeouts.

Oneonta went 4-1 in the tournament. M-E won all five of its tournament games.
