Ben Moxley threw a two-hitter, and Zach Pidgeon and David Wright had three hits apiece as Oneonta Post 259 won, 10-0, in a six-inning District Six Legion baseball game Tuesday at Montrose, Pa.
Moxley, the state Class B and Daily Star Player of the Year in 2012 after leading Oneonta High to a Class B state championship, struck out 10 and walked one.
“He had his curveball working tonight and he’s picked up some velocity,” Oneonta coach Mike Jester said of Moxley, who pitched collegiately in the spring for Herkimer County Community College. “He had good command of everything tonight.”
Moxley (3-3) had a no-hitter until Paul Henry led off the fourth inning with a double.
The Green Wave scored twice in the first inning. Moxley and Zach King led off the game with singles and both scored on a single by Pidgeon, who finished with four RBIs.
Pidgeon also had an RBI single during Oneonta’s three-run third inning and an RBI triple in the fourth inning.
Moxley (one hit), King (two hits), Pidgeon and Wright – the top four hitters in the lineup – combined for all nine of Oneonta’s hits.
“It was good to bounce back after a tough game yesterday,” Jester said of Oneonta’ 5-3 loss at Oxford-Norwich.
The Green Wave (14-12, 6-2) will host Binghamton Post 1645 at 6 p.m. Thursday at Oneonta High.
