---- — Oneonta boy wins PPK sectional

Oneonta resident Cameron Sitts won the boys 6-7 age-group during the NFL Punt, Pass and Kick Sectional Competition, which ran Oct. 25 at Damaschke Field in Oneonta.

Cameron finished with a total distance of 101 feet, 10 inches to earn a spot in a PPK Team Championship, which is scheduled for Dec. 2 at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Orchard Park. The Team Championship will be held before the Buffalo Bills host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Dec. 2.

Cameron followed a punt of 26-4 with a pass of 42-3 and a kick of 33-3 for his winning score of 101-10. He reached the sectional competition by winning the local qualifier – with the same total score of 101-10 – Sept. 14 at Ted Christman Field in Oneonta.

Savannah Cole of New Hartford won the girls 6-7 title at 93-1. She also advanced to sectionals by winning her age-group in the Sept. 14 local qualifier at Christman Field.

The sectional competition also included winners of local qualifiers in Painted Post, Corning and Chenango Forks. Distances are determined by length and accuracy.

Coaching course starts today

Cherry Valley-Springfield will host the first of three coaching courses required by New York State beginning today.

The 15-session course, Principles, Philosophy and Organization of Athletics in Education, will be led by Jordan Jaquay and costs $110.

The first four sessions will run from 5-8 p.m. today, as well as Nov. 13, 20 and 27 at CV-S. Dates for the remaining sessions will be announced after the first week.

Hoop Shoot set for Saturday

The Oneonta Elks Lodge will hold its annual Elks Hoop Shoot at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club at 10 a.m. Saturday.

This free-throw competition is open to boys and girls ages 8-13 who will be those ages on April 1, 2013. Birth certificates are required on the day of competition.

Winners will advance to district competition, which will be followed by regional, state and national rounds. The National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., will host the national finals.

Sidney to host pro wrestling

The Hillcrest Roller Skating Rink on West Main Street in Sidney will host an East Coast Pro Wrestling event at 7 p.m. Saturday.

The main event is an “I Quit” match featuring two area natives as Lil Daddy C of Sidney will defend his 607 Championship against Draven, theONEandONLY, who grew up in Walton.

The eight-bout card also includes first-round matches in the ECPW United States Championship Tournament, a 20-man Battle Royal and the debut of another Sidney product, Big Red Nasty Branden Cole.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday, with matches to start at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

Tickets are available at the Hillcrest Roller Skating Rink (607-563-8144), Twentieth Century Lanes in Sidney, and Video Entertainment Plus in Sidney.

The ECPW also has opened a training facility at the rink in Sidney and is looking for new students. Lil Daddy C and AnarchY will teach the classes, which run from noon-5 p.m. Saturdays.

Basketball tourney Monday

The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament Monday.

Cost is $3 for members and $6 for non-members. Each team must have two boys and two girls. Teams will be grouped by grades (5-6; 7-8; 9-12).

OBGC to host winter lacrosse

The winter session of Lacrosse Oneonta will run Mondays through Jan. 21, 2013 – beginning this Monday – at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.

Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play from 6-7 p.m., followed by youths in grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.

There is no fee to participate, but players must be OBGC members. A small amount of equipment is available for beginners.

Remy Tournament to return

The Anton Remy Tournament will return to Milford’s basketball schedules after taking a few years off, the Milford Booster Club announced earlier this month.

Milford will host all three days of the event, which runs Nov. 29-Dec. 1. Cherry Valley-Springfield’s boys will play Franklin in the tournament opener at 6 p.m. Nov. 29, followed by Milford’s girls against CV-S at 7:30 p.m.

On Nov. 30, the CV-S girls will play Franklin at 6 p.m., followed by Milford’s boys against Roxbury at 7:30 p.m.

The boys consolation is set for 4 p.m. Dec. 1, with Milford’s girls following against Franklin at 5:45 p.m. The tournament ends with the boys championship game at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1.
