OHS girls to play at Greene
Two-time defending Section Four champion Oneonta High will play a Class B girls soccer state quarterfinal at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Central, OHS athletic director Joe Hughes announced via email Friday.
The Yellowjackets (17-2), who also won the Southern Tier Athletic Conference championship this season, will face an opponent that will be determined Saturday.
Hughes said Section Nine champion Spackenkill will play Albertus Magnus or Bronxville at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington High. Albertus Magnus and Bronxville played for the Section One title Friday night.
The winner of Saturday’s first-round state tournament game will advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinal against OHS, which beat Spackenkill, 4-1, in the 2011 state playoffs before falling, 1-0, to Bronxville in the quarterfinal round to finish 19-2.
Tuesday’s winner will play a state semifinal at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden. Cortland State will host the Class B state championship game at 10 a.m. Nov. 18.
Clement, Luther win bass event
Jim Clement and Bob Luther won the Susquehanna Bass Association’s Art-Nate VanSteenburg Memorial Classic last weekend. The two-day tournament marked the SBA’s final event of the season.
Clement and Luther filled the 10-fish limit with a winning weight of 24.88 pounds.
Allan and Peter Green finished second at 23.13, followed by Lou Falvo and Dave Hubbard at 21.66.
Bruce Hall and Vince Fink finished fourth at 21.49, and Frank Microni and Steve Llewellyn rounded out the top five at 20.77.
Patrick McNeil earned the Big Fish Award with a 19-inch smallmouth bass that weighed 3.65 pounds.

Hoop Shoot set for Saturday
The Oneonta Elks Lodge will hold its annual Elks Hoop Shoot at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club at 10 a.m. Saturday.
This free-throw competition is open to boys and girls ages 8-13 who will be those ages on April 1, 2013. Birth certificates are required on the day of competition.
Winners will advance to district competition, which will be followed by regional, state and national rounds. The National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass., will host the national finals.

Sidney to host pro wrestling
The Hillcrest Roller Skating Rink on West Main Street in Sidney will host an East Coast Pro Wrestling event at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The main event is an “I Quit” match featuring two area natives as Lil Daddy C of Sidney will defend his 607 Championship against Draven, theONEandONLY, who grew up in Walton.
The eight-bout card also includes first-round matches in the ECPW United States Championship Tournament, a 20-man Battle Royal and the debut of another Sidney product, Big Red Nasty Branden Cole.
Doors open at 7 p.m. Saturday, with matches to start at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $12 in advance and $15 at the door.

The ECPW also has opened a training facility at the rink in Sidney and is looking for new students. Lil Daddy C and AnarchY will teach the classes, which run from noon-5 p.m. Saturdays.
Golf event this weekend
Colonial Ridge Golf in Laurens will host the Pink Ball Classic on Saturday and Sunday.
Participants may play one or both days on the course, which will hold open golf the whole weekend.
Colonial Ridge Golf will be closed from Nov. 17-25. It will re-open Nov. 26, weather-permitting.
The course also is accepting sign-ups for its winter simulator golf league. Two-person teams compete weekly in a captain-and-mate format. Play starts the week of Dec. 3-7 and runs through the week of March 25-29. Playing times are flexible as teams may on weekdays of their choice from week to week.
Weekly fees are $10 per person. A one-time fee of $20 per person is also required to pay for prize money (110-percent cash payout).

Basketball tourney Monday
The Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown will host a 3-on-3 youth basketball tournament Monday.
Cost is $3 for members and $6 for non-members. Each team must have two boys and two girls. Teams will be grouped by grades (5-6; 7-8; 9-12).

OBGC to host winter lacrosse
The winter session of Lacrosse Oneonta will run Mondays through Jan. 21, 2013 — beginning this Monday — at the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club.
Boys and girls in grades 3-7 will play from 6-7 p.m., followed by youths in grades 8-12 from 7-9 p.m.
There is no fee to participate, but players must be OBGC members. A small amount of equipment is available for beginners.

Volleyball leagues start soon
The Oneonta Recreation Department will accept registrations for its men’s and women’s volleyball leagues from returning teams only beginning Friday.
A team must return at least 75 percent of its roster from 2012 to qualify as a returning team. Registrations will be accepted from new teams beginning Dec. 7. Registration will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 21.
The program has capacity for 12 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams. Early registration is recommended.
All games are played at the Asa C. Allison Municipal building on the corner of Fairview and Academy streets in Oneonta. Men will play Tuesdays beginning Jan. 8, and women will play Wednesdays starting Jan. 9. The regular season will consist of 10 games and be followed by a postseason tournament.
Registration packets, which can be e-mailed upon request, are available at the Recreation Department in Neahwa Park. Teams must pay the $300 entry fee in full and complete a preliminary roster to register. Payments must be made via check or money order payable to the City of Oneonta. Cash payments will not be accepted.
