OHS girls to play at Greene

Two-time defending Section Four champion Oneonta High will play a Class B girls soccer state quarterfinal at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Greene Central, OHS athletic director Joe Hughes announced via email Friday.

The Yellowjackets (17-2), who also won the Southern Tier Athletic Conference championship this season, will face an opponent that will be determined Saturday.

Hughes said Section Nine champion Spackenkill will play Albertus Magnus or Bronxville at 11 a.m. Saturday at Arlington High. Albertus Magnus and Bronxville played for the Section One title Friday night.

The winner of Saturday’s first-round state tournament game will advance to Tuesday’s quarterfinal against OHS, which beat Spackenkill, 4-1, in the 2011 state playoffs before falling, 1-0, to Bronxville in the quarterfinal round to finish 19-2.

Tuesday’s winner will play a state semifinal at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 17 at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden. Cortland State will host the Class B state championship game at 10 a.m. Nov. 18.
