Cooperstown graduate Caleb Edmonds broke a major barrier last weekend for the Liberty University track team.
Edmonds finished third in the 5,000 meters at the Stanford Invitational on March 30, crossing in a personal-best 13 minutes, 57.09 seconds. In doing so, he was named the Big South Conference’s Male Track Athlete of the Week.
He became the third Liberty runner and fourth Big South runner to break 14 minutes in the event.
Edmonds, a redshirt sophomore, earned Daily Star Athlete of the Year honors in track in 2010, when he finished fourth overall in the state in the 3,200.
Oneonta High graduate Bredin is hitting .373 for the Oswego softball team.
A junior second baseman, Bredin went 3-for-4 with three runs scored in Oswego’s 11-10 win over Fredonia on April 6.
For the season, Bredin has scored 11 runs.
Franklin graduate Jessie Terrano also plays for the Lakers. The freshman has appeared in six games and has scored three runs.
Oswego is 6-10.
Oneonta High graduate Hodne, a sophomore outfielder at Cazenovia College, is hitting .304 with a home run and 12 RBIs.
Hodne also has two doubles and has scored 12 runs in 16 games.
Cazenovia is 8-10.
Hudson Valley Community College sophomore outfielder Kozak (Sidney) helped the Vikings baseball team to a doubleheader sweep of Fulton-Montgomery on Tuesday.
He went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored in a 10-3 in the first game. Kozak, The Daily Star’s Player of the Year in 2011, finished 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI in a 10-0 win in the second game.
For the season, Kozak is hitting .455 with 10 hits in 22 at-bats.
Unatego graduate Dan Shelton also plays for the Vikings. The freshman right-hander has made one appearance.
HVCC is 4-4.
Freshman forward Martin (Jefferson) averaged 6.5 points and 4.5 rebounds for the Sage College women’s basketball team.
She also had 29 steals and 14 blocks.
Martin twice led Sage in scoring, including a 19-point game in an 80-55 win over St. Joseph’s on Feb. 14.
Sage finished 8-16.
Ithaca College freshman Pidgeon (Oneonta) is no longer receiving pitches; he’s throwing them.
The left-hander who helped the Yellowjackets to a Class B state title last season as a catcher has made two appearances for the Bombers.
He’s 0-0 with a 4.50 ERA. Over two innings, Pidgeon has allowed one run on two hits. He struck out one and walked two.
Ithaca is 19-4.
Morrisville senior Stanton (Walton) has scored seven goals for the women’s lacrosse team.
Stanton has played in two of her team’s eight games.
Morrisville is 3-5.
Afton graduate Winans has four home runs and three doubles among her 13 hits for Division I Coastal Carolina’s softball team.
Winans, a junior shortstop, is hitting .148 with 14 runs and 10 RBIs in 39 games. She has 34 strikeouts in 88 at-bats.
Winans hit a three-run homer in the second inning of an 11-2 win over Charleston Southern on April 2. She also homered Wednesday in a 5-3 loss to South Carolina.
Coastal Carolina is 23-17.
Oneonta High graduate Erin Wolstenholme is pulling double duty at Cortland State.
After averaging 5.5 points and 4.0 rebounds for the Red Dragons’ basketball team, Wolstenholme is hitting .290 as a shortstop for the softball team.
Wolstenholme, a sophomore shortstop, homered in Cortland’s 8-0 win over Oswego on March 29. She went 1-for-2 with three runs scored in an 8-7 win over Fredonia in the first game of a doubleheader on April 5. In the second game, she went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored in a 5-4 loss.
Cortland is 11-11 and 4-2 in the SUNY Athletic Conference.
