CV-S boys cruise, Sidney sweeps in track

Dustin Collins hurdled and jumped his way to three victories Wednesday to lead host Cherry Valley-Springfield to Tri-Valley League boys track and field victories over Laurens, Andes, Richfield Springs and Stamford.

Collins won the 400-meter hurdles in 1 minute, 6.0 seconds and placed first in the triple jump (40 feet, 2 inches) and the high jump (5-6) to help the Patriots to 189 points. Laurens finished second with 62 points, followed by Andes (32), RS (24) and Stamford (six).

Isiah Montgomery and Elijah Lyon had two wins apiece for CV-S. Montgomery won the 100 (12.3) and the 200 (24.6), and Lyon won the 1,600 and 3,200.

Richfield Springs won the girls meet with 88 points _ 7.5 ahead of the host school. Laurens had 79 points, Stamford had 56.5 and Andes finished with 23.

Tessa Buck had two wins for the Indians, including a 31-5 ½ triple jump. She also won the 400 in 1:06.5.

Christina Gurley and Vanessa Miller also had two wins apiece for RS. Gurley won the 100 (13.8) and the 200 (28.7), and Miller placed first in the shot put (31-2) and the discus (71-4).

Meghan Voorhees had a pair of wins for Stamford, placing first in the 1,500 (5:38.4) and the 3,000 (12:21.2).

The Tri-Valley League Relays are Friday at Edmeston.

Mike Ward won the 110 and 400 hurdles events for Sidney, which swept the relays en route to a boys team victory in a five-team Midstate Athletic Conference meet at Greene.

Ward placed first in the 110 hurdles in 17.2 seconds and crossed first in the 400 hurdles, in 1:05.4.

The Warriors, who finished with 162 points, also received victories from

Dean Howard (800, 2:14.0), Collin Brandl (discus, 122-6.5), Austin Dean (shot put, 41-2), Austin McCarroll (triple jump, 37-10) and Chase Northrop (pole vault, 10-6).

Katy DeShaw’s wins in the 400 hurdles (1:17.0) and the long jump (13-3) led Sidney’s girls to a victory with 141 points.

Rachel Gibbs also won two events for the Warriors, taking the 1,500 in 5:52.7 and the 3,000 in 12:58.0.

Emma Egli (100, 14.0) and Jill Livingston (high jump, 4-8) also placed first for Sidney, which won the 400 and 3,200 relays.

Other double-winners on the girls’ side were Delhi’s Abby Hall (discus, 83-6; shot put, 32-11) and Nicole Mackey of Unadilla Valley (800, 2:43.0; triple jump, 29-9.5).

Greene will compete during a MAC meet at Unatego on Tuesday.

Nate Krome and Nick Nefaris had four goals apiece for Johnson City.

The Yellowjackets will travel to Dryden at 6 p.m. Friday.
