O-State baseball falls to Ithaca; softball drops 2

Oneonta State rallied for three runs in the ninth inning off of Oneonta High graduate Zach Pidgeon, but visiting Ithaca College held on for a 6-3 non-conference baseball victory Tuesday.

Pidgeon, who helped OHS to a Class B state title as a catcher last season, allowed three runs on one hit in 1 1/3 innings. The left-hander walked three, hit a batter and struck out one.

The Red Dragons’ Ivan Plata scored on a groundout, and Chris Romano and Jake Robinson had RBI walks in the ninth.

Ithaca (26-6) built a 6-0 lead over the first six innings.

Kyle Jordan took the loss for O-State (10-22). He allowed three hits and one earned run over four innings.


O-State swept

Oneonta State followed a 12-8 loss in the first game with a 5-4 setback in the second in a non-conference doubleheader against visiting Alfred University on Tuesday.

In the first game, freshman Cassandra Kohler hit a grand slam to left to give O-State a 5-3 lead in the third inning. O-State (8-24) then tied the score at 8 in the fifth inning, when Brieva hit an RBI double during a three-run inning. Alfred (19-13) answered with two runs in the two more in the seventh.

In the second game, O-State took a 4-2 lead on RBI singles by Kohler and Kalyn Deso in the fifth inning. Alfred scored three times in the seventh to take a 5-4 lead. Samijo Scheer’s RBI double to left capped the scoring.

O-State will host New Paltz in a doubleheader beginning at noon Saturday.

Cobleskill swept

SUNY Cobleskill lost, 12-3 and 3-2, in a non-conference doubleheader at Southern Vermont on Tuesday.

The Fighting Tigers, who made four errors in the first game, received two hits from Kelsey DeZalia.

In the second game, Cobleskill fell behind, 3-0, after four innings. Kayla Shaw doubled and drove in a run for the Fighting Tigers (13-13).
