Jenna Ganio scored 3:48 before halftime to open the scoring and visiting Laurens went on to a Tri-Valley League victory in the season opener for both teams.

The game was supposed to be part of the Edmeston Tournament, but Oxford had to pull out. Oxford was scheduled to play Schenevus in Friday’s first round, but that game and the remainder of the tournament was canceled.

Ganio’s goal came after Taylor Kessler sent a high shot toward goalie Dana Eschler. The ball got behind Eschler, and Ganio was there to kick it into an empty net.

Charlotte Lee scored in the second half for the Leopards, who were outshot, 14-6.

“We just didn’t finish,” Edmeston coach Russ McCall said. ‘We hit the crossbar. We weren’t able to capitalize on our opportunities.”

The Panthers travel to Cooperstown on Wednesday.
