Cooperstown native and Oneonta High graduate Scott Spence led his team to victory Tuesday during the 31st annual Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open Pro-Am at the par-72 Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.
Now living in Westerville, Ohio, professional golfer Spence joined Jim Bugonian, Jim Potts, Peter Severud and Andrew Vilacky as the winners. Their names will be engraved on the Joseph P. Franzese Memorial Trophy, which is named after the tournament’s founder.
Professional Joe Clark Jr. led the second-place team, which featured Steve Carl, Rocco Longo, Michael Jones and Ed Schaffer. National Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Rollie Fingers placed third with Matt Burrell, Mark deTomaso, Dave Theilman and Tim Wilson.
Tuesday’s Pro-Am drew more than 100 participants, who helped raise funds for Pathfinder Village.
The Scholarship Fund of Pathfinder Village, a residential community in nearby Edmeston for children and adults with Down syndrome, received a check for $50,000 from the Pro-Am event. Proceeds from the tournament also benefit the Hall’s education programs.
The three-day Seniors Open follows from today through Friday. A total of 91 pros from across the country will compete for a $67,750 purse.
Tom Eubank of Ellijay, Ga., shot a tournament record-tying 64 in the final round to win the 2012 Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open. Spence earned the Seniors Open title in 2007.
