Ruthie Jones and Nicole Schepisi lost their first doubles match, 8-5, but Hartwick won the next two as Rebecca Clark and Michaela Finnegan cruised to an 8-2 victory at second doubles, and Kristen Napolitano joined Lauren Noyes for an 8-0 sweep at third doubles.

Napolitano won a super tiebreaker against Sage’s Katie Schultz at fourth singles, 6-1, 6-7, (4), 10-4. Caitlin O’Brien contributed her first college win with a 6-1, 6-1 defeat of Mary Kate Hayward at fifth singles.

MEN’S SOCCERAlbany COP 3, Delhi 1

Unatego graduate Dillion Maxson scored his first college goal, but visiting Delhi lost a non-conference game in its season opener.

The teams were supposed to meet Monday at Delhi, but poor field conditions forced it to be moved to Tuesday at Albany.

Maxson volleyed in a cross from Jimmy Matias at the 31-minute mark, giving Delhi a 1-0 lead that stood at halftime.

Alessandro Macchiarelli was awarded a penalty kick 20 minutes into the second half and converted it to tie the score at 1. Zak Giorgi made it 2-1 about 10 minutes later, scoring on a 35-yard free kick.

Giorgi capped the scoring with three minutes left off a breakaway. Delhi goalkeeper Brandon Rivera (five saves) came off his line and blocked Giorgi’s initial shot but was unable to save the rebound.

“We were trying to push up to get the tying goal and got caught too far up,” Delhi coach Doug McKee said.

Delhi (0-1), which held an 11-8 advantage in shots, will host a Region III opener at 2 p.m. Saturday against Onondaga Community College.

MSM 8, Cobleskill 0

Brandon Mincher had two goals and two assists to help host Mount Saint Mary sweep SUNY Cobleskill in the season opener for the Fighting Tigers.

Matt Garcia also scored twice for MSM (2-0) in the non-conference win.

Oneonta State sophomore Krista Servedio earned SUNY Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors in field hockey after leading the Red Dragons to victories over St. Lawrence and Cedar Crest this past weekend.

Servedio made six saves in a 2-0 defeat of St. Lawrence, then had none in the first 14 minutes of a 9-1 win over Cedar Crest.

Servedio played in 11 games last fall and went 1-0 with 14 saves and five goals allowed.

Men’s Golf

The North Eastern Athletic Conference has selected Cobleskill freshman Ian Wilson as its Golfer of the Week.

Wilson led the team’s best round in the program’s NCAA history as the Fighting Tigers finished at 306 strokes for third place out of nine teams at the Utica College Fall Invitational.

Wilson shot a 1-over-par 73 at the Skenandoa Golf Club in Clinton, tying for fourth overall in the 53-player field.
