(Continued)

Jared Barnhart assisted Norris’ go-ahead goal.

Just before Norris’ goal, B-G striker Jake Cuozzo suffered a broken left wrist. Bobcats coach Pete Feltham said he didn’t know how much time Cuozzo might miss.

B-G goalie Brandt McCall made eight saves, the biggest coming on a penalty kick after Norwich took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Chris Trevisani.

Zach Smith and Adam Bauerle had a goal and an assist apiece, and Sean Jones and Brian Tequin also scored for B-G (1-0), which will travel to Oxford on Thursday.

Walton 3, Sidney 1

Jared Beach, Cameron Murphy and Nate Pieper scored for visiting Walton, which won in the Midstate Athletic Conference.

Pieper controlled a loose ball in the box and scored from 8 yards to give Walton a 2-0 lead 14 minutes into play.

Riley Howland scored off an assist from Dean Howard with 14 minutes left in the second half to pull Sidney to 2-1.

Walton goalie Dylan Walley made 13 saves, one more than counterpart Wyatt McKee.

Sidney (0-1, 0-1) will travel to Afton on Thursday.

Unatego 2, Afton 2

Johnathan Forte’s second unassisted goal for Unatego knotted the score at 2 with 81/2 minutes left in regulation, setting up two scoreless overtime periods as the Spartans tied visiting Afton in the season opener for both Midstate Athletic Conference teams.

“We had plenty of opportunities,” said Unatego coach Eric Miller, whose team outshot the Crimson Knights, 24-4. “We pretty much controlled a lot of the game and had good possessions, but we just never finished.”

Forte also scored in the first half for the Spartans, who received two saves from Mark Maruszewski.

Joe Shearer assisted second-half goals by Connor Graven-Briggs and Jesse Dedman for Afton, which got 16 saves from Matt Olin.

Unatego hosts Delhi on Thursday.

Delhi 2, UV 0

Mitch Reed scored a pair of unassisted goals to lead visiting Delhi to a MAC victory in the season opener for both teams.
