White Plains golfer leads Seniors Open

White Plains’ Craig Thomas shot an opening-round 64 to take a one-shot lead in the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open on Wednesday at the par-71 Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.

The 31st annual tournament features 91 senior golfers playing for a purse of $68,950.

Jim Chancey of Kissimmee, Fla., and Kirk Hanefeld of Acton, Mass., are tied for second after shooting 65s. Gene Fieger of Naples, Fla., and Javier Sanchez of Fayetteville, Ga., shot 66s.

The three-day tournament continues today and concludes Friday.

Proceeds benefit Pathfinder Village in Edmeston. The residential community is dedicated to children and adults with Down syndrome. Annually, the Seniors Open raises more than $50,000 for scholarships for Pathfinder Village.
