Host Oneonta State opened a three-goal lead in the second half and then held on for a 4-3 non-conference field hockey victory over Hamilton College on Wednesday.
The Red Dragons (3-0) took a 4-1 lead when Kelcy Forbragd scored early in the second half. Andrea Day a pass across the circle and Forbragd finished to the far post.
Hamilton (0-1) received goals from Sam Sherman and Eva Rosencrans to close to 4-3. Rosencrans' goal, off a deflection, made it one-goal in the 62nd minute. The Continentals had two penalty corners and forced Red Dragons goalie Tess Tracy to make a difficult over the final three minutes.
O-State opened the scoring 57 seconds into play when sophomore Sara Rattigan tipped in a rebound after an initial shot by Chelsea Remling.
Forbragd and Ashley Morgan scored goals in the 16th and 28th minutes to increase the Red Dragons' lead to 3-0.
Morgan finished with four saves. Counterpart Victoria Trentini had 11 saves.
O-State, which held a 17-12 advantage in shots, will host the University of Rochester at 2 p.m. Saturday.
Rensselaer 3, Hartwick 2
Kelsey Porter's goal with 3:03 left in regulation gave host Rensselaer a non-conference victory.
Ashley Porter passed to Kelsey Porter, whose low shot to the left corner beat Hartwick goalie Shannon Carter.
Trailing, 2-0, in the second half, the Hawks rallied to tie the score. Kelly Kramer set up Meghan Fay's goal that cut Hartwick's deficit to 2-1.
Then with 4:45 remaining, Megan Lefeber passed to Jessica Ott, who beat Engineers goalie Hannah Clough to tie the score at 2.
Hartwick held an 8-7 advantage in shots.
The Hawks (1-1) will host St. Lawrence at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Bard 8, Cobleskill 0
Maddy Huggins scored three goals to lead host Bard College to a non-conference victory.
Cobleskill (0-2) was outshot, 51-0.
Cobleskill 3, Green Mountain 1
Kady Porterfield had nine kills and Katie Young contributed 14 assists in Cobleskill's 25-20, 21-25, 25-21, 25-19 non-conference road victory.
Oneonta High graduate Kim Cordova finished with 14 digs for the Fighting Tigers, who are 3-1.
Cobleskill athlete of the week
Freshman Katie Yang, a setter for the volleyball team, was named SUNY Cobleskill's athlete of the week.
Yang earned all-tournament honors in the Blazer Challenge at Elms College this past weekend. She averaged 5.0 assists and 2.78 digs per set in helping the Fighting Tigers go 2-1.
