Seniors Open up for grabs

Floridian Jim Chancey shot a 3-under-par 68 Thursday to take the lead after the second round of the Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open at the Leatherstocking Golf Course in Cooperstown.

Chancey, who lives in Kissimmee, Fla., will take a one-stroke lead into today’s third and final round as his two-day total of 133 is one lower than Craig Thomas.

White Plains resident Thomas opened with a 64 on Wednesday for a one-stroke lead over Chancey but followed with a 70 on Thursday.

Wind contributed to higher scores for the most part Thursday, although Javier Sanchez of Fayetteville, Ga., shot a 66 -- three strokes better than his opening round. He stands third overall at 135.

Bob Niger (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) is fourth at 136. Barry Conser (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Gene Fieger (Naples, Fla.) are tied for fifth, at 137.

Kirk Hanefield (Acton, Ma.), who was tied for second after Wednesday, fell nine shots off the pace with a 77 on Thursday.

Bob Bailey (Montoursville, Pa.) and John Ross (Freeman W.Va.) highlighted the second round by acing the par-3 12th hole.
