OHS volleyball still perfect

Davenport sweeps Roxbury in soccer

Staff Report

Brittney Herrick had a match-high 13 kills Thursday, leading undefeated Oneonta High to a 3-0 volleyball sweep of visiting Johnson City in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.

OHS (4-0, 4-0) also received match-bests from Krissy Wells (17 assists) and Annie Nobiling (five aces) during its 25-6, 25-14, 25-18 triumph.

“We got up quickly and we stayed up,” OHS coach Lee Ferrara said. “Everybody got a chance to play a little bit tonight. JC is very young so it’s a down year for them, but they’ll be back.”

Morgan Chilson’s six assists paced the Wildcats.

Oneonta visits Windsor on Tuesday, then hosts defending Section Four Class B champion Owego on Thursday. The Yellowjackets fell to Owego in the last two sectional finals, but they won’t have to face the Indians in the postseason this year. Ferrara said Oneonta and Windsor dropped to Class C for volleyball this season while Owego remained in Class B.

Oneonta advanced to the last two Class B sectional title matches by beating Windsor.

Unatego 3, Greene 1

Leanne McKee had seven aces, three kills and three assists to lead host Unatego to a Midstate Athletic Conference victory.

The Spartans (2-3) finished with 31 aces in their 25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 25-19 triumph. Brianna Hoefer and Hannah Bohacek had six aces apiece, Taylor Reed contributed five, Kali Benedict had four and Kassie McKee finished with three.

Kayli Dickinson’s nine assists and five digs paced the Trojans (1-4), who visit Deposit on Tuesday.

Unatego travels to Oxford on Tuesday.

Cody Wamsley contributed a pair of goals for the Wildcats (3-1, 1-1), who held a 24-5 advantage in shots.

Davenport plays Schenevus at 8 p.m. Saturday in the championship game of the Stamford Mayor’s Cup.
